But once you’ve earned more than £1,000 from self-employment in one tax year, you’ll need to file your tax return in the next tax year.

If you want to earn some quick cash before you go travelling, for instance, it’s important to keep a few things in mind:

  1. As soon as you have registered as a sole trader and have received an active Unique Taxpayers Reference (UTR) number you will be obliged to file your tax every six months. Even if you’ve only worked for a short period of time. Make sure you understand what taxes you will be facing.

  2. If you’d rather not fill in your tax declarations whilst you’re gone, you can do one of these things:

    1. Deactivate your UTR number by informing The HMRC of ending sole tradership through the Self Assessment portal or by calling them.

    2. Hire an accountant and authorise him/her to fill in the tax declaration on your behalf.

Do I have to delete my Temper profile when I’ll be away for a while?

No. You can keep your profile as it is and your previous shifts and ratings will be stored, so when you return you can get back to work right away.
