As a client, you must check that the FreeFlexer who showed up for the job is actually the person you have selected. That's why you should always ask for proof of identity. The FreeFlexer should always be able to show their ID. If they’re not able to, then you have the right to give that person a no-show. This also applies when the ID that’s shown is not valid.

In order to start working via our platform, FreeFlexers must upload their proof of identity when they register. All those who are allowed to work as an independent contractor in the UK can sign up on our platform and apply to jobs. Temper does verify the right to work for those FreeFlexers without a UK or Irish passport.

Keep in mind that the final responsibility for checking proof of identity always lies with you as the client.

Which identity documents are valid and which are not?

Of course, the proof of identity must not have expired, and the FreeFlexer must be at least 18 years old to be active on our platform.

In addition, the following identity documents are considered valid:

  • UK passport

  • Irish passport

  • Non-UK/IRL passport in combination with a UK government acclaimed ‘right to work’

The following identity documents are invalid:

  • Driver's license (although this is sufficient for personal identification, it is not considered a valid ID card during sign up)

  • Non-UK/IRL passport in combination without the right to work

Verifying Right to Work

If you're unsure about a FreeFlexer's work eligibility or if a substitute from outside the platform is taking over a shift, it's important to verify their right to work. You can do this by asking them to provide their Right to Work share code. If they are a non-UK national, they should have a code or can request one from the government. Once you have the share code, simply enter it on this official government website to verify their work eligibility status.
